Equity List Survey Results

On behalf of Area of Knowledge Management, Bioethics and Research (KBR – PAHO/WHO), we would like to thank Equity List (Lista Equidad) members for taking the time to complete the survey. We are happy to say that we received valuable feedback from the survey that will help us continue to provide information that is both relevant and interesting to our subscribers.

As of June 30th, we recovered 345 responses from Lista Equidad members. The respondents of the survey represented Lista Equidad subscribers from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. About 49% chose to take the survey in Spanish, 42% in English, and 9% in Portuguese. Most subscribers belong to Academic Institutions (63%) and Government Agencies (30%)

Of the 345 respondents asked about the frequency of dissemination, 76% answered that it was adequate. Currently, the list sends 4-5 emails per week.

We asked “Which topics from the Equity List (Lista Equidad) are you most interested in?”and in all three languages respondents favored Social Determinants of Health, 2.Health Equity, and Social Disparities/Inequalities in Health. This tells us that we are accomplishing our goal of disseminating health equity related information. Despite having the same general interests, there were differences amongst English, Spanish, and Portuguese speakers which can be interesting to explore. For example, Spanish speakers expressed an interest in 3.
Universal Health Coverage, English speakers focused more on Sustainable Development, and Portuguese speakers prioritized Global Health.

To learn more about trends, themes and perspectives popular among members, we incorporated an open question to give users an opportunity to contribute additional themes to be considered by the list. The most common responses were: Social Justice, Gender and Family, Indigenous Populations, Drugs, Environmental Health, Migrant Health, Healthcare Systems, Sexual and Reproductive health, Epidemiology and Research, Disabilities, Nutrition, and Access to Quality Healthcare.

5.We found that 62% of all of the survey participants agree and 33% strongly agree that the information from Equity List (Lista Equidad) is relevant to their work, research and/or Public Health endeavors. We look forward to having more opportunities to learn more about our members. We expect to have more chances to repeat this survey and hope to have more members respond in the future so that we can continue to meet the needs and interests of our subscribers. We greatly appreciate the collaboration of the readers.

Excellent findings. I suggest we work on getting more done to reduce inequity. It seems we have most of the information but lack action. Effective interventions need to be part of global health and country health plans.

Thank you very much for your intervention. How do you suggest we address this? Would you like to write a concept note to be circulated among the members and posted in the blog? Thank you very much.
